The Unitree R1 EDU (U2) Humanoid Robot is a compact and agile humanoid robot, measuring approximately 1.21 m (just under 4 ft) in height and weighing around 25 kg (55 lb). Designed with an ultra-lightweight frame and fully customizable exterior, the R1 is built for effortless deployment and adaptability across real-world environments.
For research and educational applications, the R1 EDU variant expands the platform’s capabilities with up to 40 degrees of freedom, an optional dexterous hand, and enhanced head mobility. It also supports secondary development and offers optional high-performance computing with NVIDIA Jetson Orin (100 TOPS), making it ideal for universities, labs, and developers who need a versatile, customizable humanoid research platform.

Equipped for expressive movement and intelligent interaction, the R1 delivers agile mobility capable of dynamic actions such as cartwheels, handstands, running, and even simulated boxing sequences. Its perception and communication capabilities include binocular stereo vision, a 4-microphone array, and a built-in speaker, all powered by an 8-core CPU (and GPU support), while connectivity is enabled through Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2.
At its core, the R1 is integrated with a large multimodal language model, allowing it to process both speech and visual inputs—a notable step toward responsive and interactive humanoid behavior.
